Optimize disk ‘C’:
This is the first and primary method to clear cache in Windows 10. Most of the sensitive information in a computer is present in Local disk C like Operating System, Application memory, downloaded files, OneDrive files, etc.
So optimizing Local disk C is a necessary step in the cache clearing process. While your disk C storage is full, two methods you need to follow to fix the issue.
- Optimize local disk C and
- Manage the disk partition in Windows 10
Just follow these steps to optimize your local disk C.
- Open ‘This PC‘ or ‘My PC’ / Open ‘File Explorer’ and select ‘This PC.’ There you can find all the local drives on your computer.
- Right-click on Local disk C and select ‘Properties.’
- Then click on ‘Disk Cleanup.’ The new tab ‘Disk Cleanup for C‘ will open
- Select the files that you want to delete and click OK.
- A pop-up will appear to remind you that the files are going to be deleted permanently. So make sure while you are selecting the locations.
Note: It’s better to check Recycle Bin before doing this process. And restore files that are useful to you.
Remove unwanted apps:
You might use different applications on a computer for your work convenience. But every app you are using will be like a stone in a pot. The more stones it has and the more weight the pot will be.
The Operating System will run apps in the background to give a good experience to the user. This means, if an app is running in the background, it will open in less time when you click on it. And you’ll get notifications even when you are not using it.
More background running apps won’t affect you if you have a high, capable device. But a 4 GB and 8 GB RAM device affects a lot. So you have to remove unwanted apps from your PC. This method is useful for your mobile phone as well.
The Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) with a memory management issue is a sign that a PC has unbearable cached data in it.
Along with the apps, the complete app data like cache data, permissions, etc, will get removed.

Restart your PC :
Although it is a simple task, it is very effective. I used to restart my PC whenever I felt a lag in performance because I rarely make a clean shutdown of my computer. The reason is, I prefer Hibernate mode to any other shutdown option.
Hope you know what hibernate means. If you don’t know, here is a complete guide on Hibernate mode in Windows 10.
My PC was in hibernate mode for days and weeks. In the long run of using apps, the Operating System will record too much-cached data for speed and smooth performance.
But it affects negatively. So I prefer to restart my PC in this situation.
A restart option in a computer makes your PC completely shut down and then it starts again.
During this restart process, all the running apps will get closed and their cached data too. So, it helps to improve the performance of your PC.
If you are using hibernate mode like me, restarting your PC might help you.
Clear location history :
A desktop PC user may not worry much about this option if power consumption matters. But in a laptop, location consumes a lot of your battery power along with the effect of cached data.
Find out the power consumption of a desktop PC and a laptop. I suggest you turn off the location on your laptop to save its power consumption. And your PC won’t record cached data of your location.
But in some situations, you need to turn on your location. Then cached data will be stored on your PC. And will need to be removed to speed up your computer.
These steps will take you to clear location history on your PC.
- Open Settings
- Select Privacy. The new tab will appear.
- You can find the Location under App Permission. Click on it.
- Then swipe down to find the Location history option. Under that, select Clear.
Apps that are using location permissions might ask you again to get access.
